An update to Digital Anarchy's Flicker Free plugin has bought motion compensation, a large performance boost and a handy collection of presets.

Flicker Free was originally designed for de-flickering Time-Lapse, but it works amazingly well on many other types of flicker. The most common problem is cameras and lights being out of sync resulting in rolling bands. However, it works on flicker from LED or Fluorescent lights, Slow Motion (high speed) footage, Drone footage, and much more.

One question that gets asked a lot on here and other forums is 'How can I get rid of flicker on my video?'. It could be a flickering light at a wedding, removing DSLR rolling shutter, smoothing a timelapse or getting rid of of the flickering that rotors produce on drone footage.

There's only been a couple of answers to that question, one of them being the usage of the Flicker Free plugin from Digital Anarchy.

Flicker Free v2.0 gains dramatic GPU-accelerated performance of more than 300% over the previous version. It also gets greatly enhanced motion detection which uses optical flow algorithms to detect and delineate independently moving objects, even in the presence of camera motion. For shots with a moving camera or a lot of movement in the video, these integrated motion-estimation algorithms are claimed to be highly effective for repairing poor quality video or footage that was previously unfixable.

Flicker Free 2.0 supports NVIDIA’s CUDA and OpenCL (AMD), with Metal (Apple) support coming soon in a free upgrade. For HD footage the average speed increase is over 300%. With 4K footage the average improvement in speed is said to be almost 1000%, with 1500% increases using newer cards like NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti and Quadro RTX 4000 GPUs.

Flicker Free works with many video editing applications, including Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro X, Davinci Resolve, and VEGAS Pro.
